Update and Information Regarding Further Release

I wanted to update everyone who has been following this project about its future and the work I have been doing.


Currently the game is in its alpha stage. If the 7DRL was the prototype for the game, it's safe to say a lot of work has been done. I have been working on upgrading the existing systems and making new content. Here is a small list of included features in the game so far:

Monsters with smart pathfinding able to use special abilities,

Items with a variety of utility/offensive effects the player can use,

A prefab dungeon generator with a lot of variation,

A time based system for actions,

A special targeting system for items,

Mouse and keyboard support for most actions*

And much more!


Now for those who played the 7DRL you remember that you played as a bounty hunter, hunting down their random quarry for a reward. In the new Rogue's Quarry, that is no longer the case. Taking on a more heroic bent, you play as the Rogue, a worshipper of a divine being of good. Your mission is to defeat the Ancient Enemy of your lord, who is gradually rising in power again. The Ancient Enemy is hidden however, this means in order to hunt them down and piece together all they are capable of, you will need to hunt down several of their powerful minions! 

Now that the basic plot is out of the way, here is the plan for the full game.

You will start at a market where you will learn of your quarry, a servant of the Ancient Enemy. The quarry is no mere monster however, they just like the Ancient Enemy are possessed of randomly generated qualities that will make them much tougher to fight. Your goal is to use what money and resources you have to gather information about your quarry, and then buy items to prepare for the unique threat you will face. The dungeon you will then embark on will have qualities like the servant that rules over it. Only by smart decision making and proper preparation will you be able to triumph. After defeating the servant you will learn a sliver of information regarding the Ancient Enemy. Once you defeat enough servants you will have all the knowledge you need to hunt down your final quarry, completing your quest.

Right now the alpha version does not include progressive dungeons, the Ancient Enemy, or markets. That is all work that is going to be completed in preparation for the beta! 

The plan so far is to keep the game in private alpha for testing while I gradually add these necessary features to it. Once the game has all of its features, and it includes enough content, I will release it for a public beta.
